Silver Singles review: cost, the free version, and who it is really for
A well-built platform for the over-50s, and one of the most expensive on our list. Whether it suits you comes down to one question: do you want someone near your own age, or a wide gap?
The short version
SilverSingles is a serious product. Launched in 2002, owned by Spark Networks, built around a Five Factor personality questionnaire, with manual profile checks and a clean app. If you want a partner in a similar stage of life, it does that job as well as anything.
It is also expensive, the free version is close to unusable, and its matching works hard to pair you with someone near your own age. For a reader of this site, that last point is the whole story. A man of 58 who sets his preference twenty years younger will still be shown women in their fifties, because the algorithm considers that the better match and by its own standards it is right.
Good platform. Wrong tool if the age gap is the point.
How this review was put together. It draws on SilverSingles’ own published material and pricing page, its app store listings, and published independent reviews and user feedback. It is not based on our own paid account. Pricing on this platform varies by term and by promotion, so treat every figure here as a guide and read the checkout total.
Silver Singles login and sign in
Most people arriving here are trying to get into their account rather than read a review, so this goes first. The brand writes itself as one word, SilverSingles, but plenty of people search for silver singles login as two, and both land in the same place.
For SilverSingles sign in, go to silversingles.com and use the log in link at the top right, or open the app and sign in there. You will need the email address you registered with and your password. The login page is the same one whether you are on the free version or Premium.
- Forgotten password. Use the reset link on the login page. The email can take a few minutes and sometimes lands in spam.
- Login not accepted. The most common cause is registering with one email address and trying to sign in with another. Try any other address you might have used.
- Signed in but seeing nothing. If photos are blurred and you cannot message, you are on the free Basic account rather than Premium. That is normal, not a fault.
- Using the app. The Silver Singles app for iOS and Android uses the same credentials as the website. Signing in on one does not sign you out of the other.
- Still stuck. Silver Singles customer service can be reached at support@silversingles.com, and through the contact form in the help section of your account. There is no published phone line, so email is the route.
Is Silver Singles free?
There is a free version, called Basic, and it is more limited than most people expect.
Free gets you registration, the full personality questionnaire, a profile, and daily match suggestions. What it does not get you is the two things that matter: member photos are blurred, and you cannot send messages. You can see that someone has been matched to you without being able to see them or speak to them.
That is deliberate. The free tier exists to get you through the questionnaire and show you what is waiting behind the paywall. It is a genuine trial in the sense that you can judge match quality and distance before paying, which is worth doing, but it is not a version of the site you can actually use.
How much does Silver Singles cost?
Silver Singles cost is quoted per month but billed for the whole term in advance, and the monthly figure drops sharply the longer you commit. Published rates have run around $44.95 a month on a three month term, $34.95 on six months, and $24.95 on twelve months. Some reviewers have reported higher figures depending on promotion and region.
Two things worth understanding before you enter a card:
- You pay the full term up front. A twelve month plan at $24.95 is a single charge of roughly $300, not a monthly debit. The advertised monthly number is a division, not a payment schedule.
- Every tier is the same product. Premium Light, Premium Comfort and Premium Classic differ only in length and price. You are not buying more features by paying more per month, you are buying fewer months.
There is a three day cancellation window in which a full refund is available. After that, cancelling stops the renewal but does not refund what you have paid.
Who owns Silver Singles?
Spark Networks, which also operates several other dating brands including EliteSingles and Zoosk. SilverSingles launched in 2002 and has been redesigned a number of times since.
That ownership is a point in its favour on the things that usually go wrong with smaller platforms. Payments work, the app is maintained, customer service exists and profiles are manually checked. It is not a thin site with a big marketing budget.
What works
- Serious matching. A Five Factor personality questionnaire that takes 25 to 30 minutes and produces better suggestions if you answer it properly.
- Profiles are manually reviewed, which is more than most platforms do.
- Clean, well maintained app and website, genuinely usable if you are not confident with technology.
- Real customer service you can email.
- Three day full refund window.
- Cancellation is four steps inside your account, not a phone call.
What doesn’t
- The matching steers you toward your own age group, whatever your filters say.
- Expensive, and the whole term is charged up front.
- The free version blurs photos and blocks messaging, so it is a preview rather than a usable tier.
- Users repeatedly report matches well outside their stated distance preference.
- Consumer review ratings are poor, with a 1.2 star average reported on Consumer Affairs, mostly over billing and match quality.
- No refund after three days, even if the pool near you turns out to be empty.
Why it is the wrong tool for a wide age gap
This is the part other reviews will not tell you, because most of them are not written for someone looking across an age gap.
SilverSingles matches on a personality questionnaire, and that system weighs life stage heavily. Compatibility, as it defines it, means shared values, similar circumstances and comparable stage of life. Two people twenty five years apart score badly on that even when they would get on well in person.
There is also simple arithmetic. The platform is built for the over-50s and around eight in ten members are in that bracket. Under-50s can and do join, but they are a minority, and a wide search returns people who are largely not there.
Set your preference two decades younger and you will still be shown women within a few years of your own age. That is the algorithm working correctly. It is just working toward a different goal than yours.
How to cancel Silver Singles
- Log in and open My Account from the menu.
- Go to the Membership tab.
- Click Cancel under your renewal date.
- Select a reason, click Continue, enter your password and confirm.
You will get a confirmation email, and Premium features stay active until the end of the term you have paid for. If you subscribed inside the iOS or Android app, cancel through your Apple or Google subscription settings instead, because the billing runs through the app store there.
Cancelling is not the same as deleting. Deleting your account removes your profile and photos permanently and cannot be undone, so do not delete if you might come back.
How it compares
Against AgeMatch, SilverSingles is the better built and better funded product by some distance, and the wrong one if you want a wide gap. AgeMatch is dated and basic, and the age preference is its entire purpose.
Against DateMyAge, SilverSingles is easier to budget for, since you know what you are paying rather than watching credits drain.
If you want a partner near your own age, SilverSingles is a reasonable choice and our guide to older dating sites explains where it fits. If the gap is the point, start with our ranking of age gap dating sites instead.
The verdict
Worth the money for the right person, and that person is someone over 50 looking for someone else over 50 who wants a considered match rather than a swipe. For them, the questionnaire and the manual profile checks are worth paying for.
For a reader of this site, it is a well-run platform pointed in the opposite direction to the one you want. Use the free version first, look at the ages actually being suggested to you, and let that decide it rather than the marketing.

Is Silver Singles good for age gap dating?
No, and that is not a criticism of the platform. Its matching runs on a personality questionnaire that weighs life stage heavily, so it pairs you with people in similar circumstances.
Around eight in ten members are over 50. Set your preference twenty years younger and you will still be shown women within a few years of your own age.
